I purchased the Barnes TEZ in 290 gr. 120 gr of 777 ffg. Sited in at 80 yds 14" of drop at 200 yds. Don't think I would shoot much more than 200 yds with open sites.

I'll have to look. But I thought when I sighted in at a 100 yards the drop at 200 was about 26". That was a year ago so I may be way off.

Once I have it dialed in and I'm satisfied it's on at 100 yds I will put a scope on it to get the best numbers on bullet drop.

This is open sites the cross tape on the bottom of the orange target is where I center my front site. The taped hole there is from 80 yds, then I taped the top of the paper and centered on it at 200 yds. I didn't have a ruler but it's in the 14" range. BTW, my front site covered the paper side to side but I could still see the 1 by 4 board on the sides.

When I sight my rifle les I use a PBR system - Point Blank Range.  I use 3" as my base - so a bullet shot with a 6 O'clock hold on the target will never more than 3" high of 3" low at given range.

What it really works out to is that 99% of the time you sight in right near 3" high at a hundred yards. and from there you do not need to do much guess work out to 150/75 yards.

This a ballistic chart for the bullet I use for elk during rifle season... a Lehigh .458x305 gr. CF.  I use the ML for both rifle and ML season now days...

 

So if you look by being 2.84" high at a hundred - I am dead on at 150 and at 175 down 3"...  At 200 I would be down about 7".

In the military we did the 6 o clock w the m16. I shoot w a peep and it's more natural for me to center my front site where I want to hit, it has a round fiber optic on it. I  just center it on the tape lines and that's where I want to hit.

But at 100 yards and longer your bead cancover up several inches of the target. If you use the 6 O clock hold what you see on the top of the bead will what you hit. I got the 6 O clock hold from the military also. 

With a scope I do use the direct hold.

I center the front bead on the horizontal line and the vertical line. I feel I'm more accurate that way. At 100 yds the front post might not quite be at the 6, I might be up on the bull or might have some daylight it's hard for me to tell.

I just shot today, I'm shooting 2" high at 100 yds. These barns 290 gr TEZ were landing on top of each other. I have about 8 to 10 inches of drop at 200 yds, (open sites). Traditions Vortex NW magnum 30" barrel, 120 grs 777 ffg, German musket caps. I love this gun, the breech plug removes with a simple twist, after each shot I run a cleaning/conditioning patch from the the breech to the end of the barrel.
