Congrats in pulling an awesome tag. It's a fun unit to hunt. A little more pressure due to the archery general season cow hunt. So be prepared for that aspect.

Early season scouting will get you familiar with the area pretty quickly. I've seen some dandy bulls in there last few years.  Hang some cams if you can. Feel free to give me a call (pm for number). I'll be in there for at least part of the season.

We've hunted it the past 2 years.  Have seen some 330-350 class bills.

Lots of roads on top. Very little pressure once you drop into the canyons. Met a bull hunter there the first year who did not fill his tag and he hunted hard with a team. Not easy, but looked like a fun hunt.

Great Tag! Good Bull numbers! But a lot of pressure! Spend some time getting in shape, it's big country. With a few days of scouting you'll be able to sort things out pretty quickly and have an exciting hunt!

Thanks for all the information. I have been looking at a map I bought from the pomeroy ranger district as well as google maps trying to find grassy basins adjacent to dark timber. Not sure if that is something to be looking for or if I am wasting my time

That sure seems to be the popular thinking about the blue mountains doesn't it. But that's ok maybe it will bring more opportunities to the rest of us. 😬

Don't over look the Hogback/tripple Ridge area there's always elk in those areas. The game dept had a food plot by the Black Ranch and at dark the elk would pour out of Dark Canyon to hit the plot. It was fun to watch.
