Looking to expand our Elk Hunting Group
« on: July 12, 2016, 10:00:21 AM »
We are an established and organized hunting group that is looking for 2-3 hunters to fill out our group (4-5 total). We hunt Eastern WA/Modern Firearm season on public land. This season we have 3 hunters and can accommodate 1-2 others... in subsequent seasons we can accommodate 2-3.

We hunt SW of Ellensburg about 9 miles from I-90 at 4500 feet elevation... the road is okay but 4WD is recommended due to possible snow/ice.

Our camp setup is a complete system... internal frame wall tent with an extended awning cooking and storage area, wood burning stove, tarps, tables for food prep, etc. You would need a camp cot, sleeping bag, coolers and personal gear. We camp where we hunt and you can make your hunting as relaxed or as arduous as you want. We travel to camp on the day before the Saturday opener and usually stay a week.

We share in the setting up and taking down of camp, cooking, firewood gathering, animal recovery and handling. We share any meat taken evenly.

Reply or send me a PM if interested or you want additional information.

TIA

What a great offer.  I am sure you will find some interested parties.

It might be helpful to list your (current group's) general ages.  Are you twenty-somethings, or seventy-somethings?

Best of luck!!

Good point... we're definitely not twenty-somethings... I'm 67 and my buddy is 68.

Yikes... did I just admit that!!

I'm retiring next week after a 35+ year career as a Boeing engineer.

My buddy, also retired, is an ex-smoke-jumper.

We were once a group of 6 hunters but our ranks have dwindled recently for a variety of reasons.

What else do you have in mind?

Ted, I should add that I'm an ex-steelheader. Used to float the Skykomish from Sultan to Monroe every fishable Sunday years ago. Still have the Alumaweld drift boat but haven't gotten it wet in years. Where do you steelhead?

First post to introduce myself and express some appreciation for this great website. Along with cigardave, I'm the other member of this elk hunting group. A few things that I would emphasize is that after 12 seasons using our walltent system, we have put together a comfortable and efficient elk hunting camp. The tent itself is still in almost new condition and perfectly fitted to the frame. Great woodstove keeps things as warm as needed. And we have great campfires.

We're both in our late sixties, but have hunted with hunters in their twenties from this camp, and we are seeking hunters to join us from across a wide age range. As stated, you can decide how hard you want to hunt and how far you want to wander in search of elk. We set this camp up in an area where you can just walk out of the tent and you can be hunting. We aren't elk hunting experts but have figured out how to have an enjoyable week and also, to fill some elk tags along the way.

We are mainly seeking people who can commit to about a week in camp and are willing to help share the effort of setting up and taking down the camp, taking turns cooking meals, gathering firewood, etc. It's not a heavy workload but certain chores need group participation.

By all means, let us know if you are interested or have additional questions. We will lose another of our original group due to relocation after this season, so this is a serious offer intended to keep a solid hunting group formed.

Why, yes, I am interested. :) My wife, partner, and girlfriend would all be much happier if I didn't hunt alone I'll do my best entertaining you with stories from that situation in return for your hospitality, knowledge, and set up.

PM sent but if it's lost in the either drop me one and lets talk more.

Dang, you have a wife, a partner and a girlfriend?! You're a busy guy! How do you even have time to hunt?

Sorry couldn't help myself!  :chuckle:

When the wife, partner, and girlfriend are the right matches one has *more* time and energy to do things, not less.

If nothing else, their other boy/girlfriends provide distraction, from time to time...;)
