my "unicorn" gun

a long, long time ago my uncle got me hooked on the 358 winchester round.  he had it in a ruger single shot and i always wanted one.  about 20 years ago a bought a used Browning Lever Action in 358 and put a Leuopold scope on it and was in love with the gun.  Unfortunately i fell on hard times and got laid off from my job so to make ends meet had to sell some guns off to make the mortgage payment.  I sold that BLR to a member on this site (I hope he still has it and is doing him justice).  Always regretted having to sell that but sometimes you do what you have to do to survive.  Never thought i would see one again due to the rareity of the gun.  A couple months back i bought a Taurus 357  off this site from Carpsniperg2.  He told me that he has a FFL and if i ever needed anything else to give him a call.  The past few years my fortunes have changed and i am in a position now to buy some guns that i can enjoy and ultimately pass down to my kids and grandchildren.  one nite after enjoying some tasty refreshments i called him about the possibilty of finding a BLR in 358 caliber.  He said he would put the word out but due to limited production it may take upwards of a year to find it.  Told him i would wait cuz that is the one gun i really wanted. One recently came available in North Carolina and Matt tried to call me.  I wasn't able to take the call but Matt told him to ship the gun out cuz he had a buyer that really wanted that gun. Arrangements were made and i picked up my unicorn this morning.  A big Thank You to Matt a.k.a Carpsniperg2 on getting me the one gun i've always wanted...would reccommend his services to anyone looking to find their unicorn or anything for that matter.  his mark-up on the guns he orders is minimul and he is a great guy to deal with.  gonna try and post a pic of my unicorn but i know it won't due it justice...it's a beautiful gun

do not fear.  The BLR's I've owned and shot have been as accurate as most factory bolt guns I've shot.  My 30-06 (old betsie) will hold MOA all day every day.

That rifle will make a great heirloom to hand down someday. Three weeks ago I found an old 358 WIN case on a very remote ridge in the heart of the wenaha wilderness. I wonder what story that case could tell? BTW I purchased some equipment from Matt last month he was great to deal with.

the 358 is pretty much a handloader's round anymore.  i think there are only a few compnies that sell factory rounds.  I know that winchester sells some silvertips and Hornady sells some 200 gr inter-locks.  i've ordered 4 boxes of them from Cheaper than dirt ($26/box)  if i can't get the accuracy i need from them i will use the brass for handloads-which i've done before with 225 gr nosler partitions with very good MOA's for a 35 caliber bullet .  obviously its not a bean field round but it doesn't deserve the title of a "woods gun" either.  my dead hold range will be about 225 yards but i've only shot a handful of animals past that range anyway.  looking forward to burning some powder with her.
