Heathers Choice meals review

$15 a meal is a hell of a lot more than this cowboy is going to spend on a freeze dried meal. I only eat one MH a day in the field so I don't care if it's got a few preservatives.

People really over estimate the preservatives in MH meals anyway. There isn't any voodoo involved. It's healthier than 90% of prepared foods (round number) and I can get a Mexican Style rice and chicken, throw in a Sriracha packet and some pepper, I'm good for the night and I don't have to cook or wait half an hour

I've got no problem with MH. I'm one of the lucky ones I guess and they don't mess with my stomach. I eat pretty healthy most of the year so a week or two out of 52 eating MH is alright with me.. Everyday at the hospital I grab a few packs of red peppers and tobasco; Makes any meal much more enjoyable.. Backcountry hunting is already expensive enough. And 20-30 min to wait to eat?! NOPE! I'm in bed 30 min after I'm back to camp at night (sometimes I can't even wait that long). I listened to Heather on the Gritty Bowman podcast and I understand the costs associated with doing this and it's nice to have more options, but I'm gonna stick with the Ol standby for now..

youtube dehydrating meals for backpacking why pay $15 a meal when you can make your own for a lot less. Those saying they want to know whats in the food their is no better way then doing it yourself.

  I only pack 3 flavors of MH, even on a 9 day hunt.  It's not exciting but it's consistent and proven.

Last year I picked up a bunch of Alpine Aire meals from REI during one of their sales.  I think I ended up paying a little over 5 bucks per meal, so about the same as MH from Costco.  I think they are a little better, and certainly give you some variety outside of the MH options.

Last year I picked up a bunch of Alpine Aire meals from REI during one of their sales.  I think I ended up paying a little over 5 bucks per meal, so about the same as MH from Costco.  I think they are a little better, and certainly give you some variety outside of the MH options.

Yeah I just picked up a few of the Alpine Aire meals. I hope they are as good as they sound

Totally disagree. I lose my appetite above 8000 feet and I know many others do too. So if I'm not hungry in the first place, I'd rather not be trying to power down some stale tasting, Backpackers Pantry that took 30 mins to cook. Not when I could have a tasty meal done in 12 min including boil time.

I was able to try Heathers Choice for the first time this past weekend and have to say I was impressed. I'm not picky when it comes to types of foods, however I much prefer more nutrient rich and wholesome foods. And personally, I don't mind paying more for better food. We tried the dark chocolate chili which was really tasty and filling. The macaroons were okay, but I probably wouldn't spend the money on those again. The buckwheat breakfast wasn't bad at all, just a little too much chia seed flavor for my taste. Excited to try more. If anything I would say that I would certainly stick with her main meal options.
