I have a Winchester Model 70 that was made in 1941 and the caliber stamped on the barrel is .300Mag. A .300 WinMag cartridge will not fit this rifle but a .300H&H will. In addition I have some brass that is stamped .300Mag and it will also fit. I am going to be selling the rifle and want to be able to explain this. Was the .300Mag caliber a precursor to the .300H&H? Do they even make .300 Mag ammo anymore?Any thoughts would be appreciated.
