Sight suggestions
« on: July 27, 2016, 07:46:52 PM »
Contomplating upgrading my sight. Would like to stay relatively light. Something where I can use the last pin as an adjustable for longer ranges.
Are these type of sights worth it and what do you recommend?

Thanks

First off I'm a Spot Hogg guy, but on my Carbon Knight I've been using a G5 Optix XR sight, it's a 4 pin, 3 stationary and one adjustable pin. So far I've been super happy with it, I sighted my bottom pin for 60yd and the first pin for 30yds, so I'm able to adjust my floater (4th)pin out to 90+Yds.

Im pretty positive montana black gold has an adjustable multiple pin sight. Once I got my first black gold sight I've stuck with em I've used both multiple pin and single pin. I have the single pin black gold now and love it.

I like the idea and sight picture of a single pin, but seems like I would struggle with getting it at the correct range hunting elk in thick timber.

Love my hogg father but my hunting bow has a hogg it on it. You can get a hogg father with a three pin head and still be able to adjust it for longer range.

Trophy Taker Option sight. I ordered mine as a 6 pin in their oblong 8 pin housing, with the floating pin bottomed out it gets me out to 110 yards. Before anyone blasts me about shooting game that far out, I've never taken a shot that far on anything but a big bag target at the local range and have no plans to shoot game out that far, but it sure makes me hold solid at 30 yards.

they make a five pin that moves so you set your bottom pin to 60 then move them all for further . I just went to a single pin with the mover . I will pretty much leave it at 37 yards for hunting and over fifty make the adjustment if needed .

I shoot a 3 pin Black gold ascent. I was skeptical initially, not of the sight itself but of the slider in general. I have been pleasantly surprised and so far it has been very solid. The pins themselves do not "float" like the g5. The pins are fixed and the sight housing is slides. I shoot 30 through 50 and use my 50 yard pin as my distance pin. The downside to this system is that you MUST remember to return your sight to TDC after shooting further than fifty. Otherwise all of your pin will be off.

I have no experience with the hogg father but it seems very well constructed. It is similar in principle but uses a different mechanism for sliding. It appears bombproof like all Hogg products, but does have a weight penalty.

The option from trophy taker and the Accutouch from axcel are other sights that look very appealing and I would like to try at some point. Personally I went to a slider to reduce pin clutter so going more than 3 or 4 pins defeats the purpose of one of the biggest benefits to them.

I hunt with mine set on 30 and practice shooting 20, 30, and 40 with it like that. I figure if I had a shot past 40 ill have time to range it and dial it in. Its just a preference thing, if I have a bad experience with it I may switch back to a multiple pin but as of now havent had one.

bow performance makes a difference . at 315 fps and a 420 grain arrow I can shoot one pin to 40. the single pin really helps me aim small in the heat of the moment .

Coach I don't think it's the bow sight that allows you to kill elk. You just go out and do it. The bull whisperer. You'd kill them all with a spoon if you had to
