Why do they miss so much? 30 YDS and under!!!
« on: August 01, 2016, 05:04:50 PM »
As many know I took up Archery 2 Seasons ago going into my third this year.  I watch a lot of hunting shows where people with the best equipment money can buy and yet you see a ton of them miss at up close ranges.  Even being a novice I damn well can kill at 30yds and under.

To me its like a rifle at 100 yds, how in the hell do you miss a 8 inch target provided the weapon is sighted in correctly?  Pretty sure Im not being cocky but Ive seen some FAMOUS people miss and miss and miss at 30 yds and under.

Im taking into account jumping the string and the like.  So why do they miss so much?
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

Are they shooting at moving targets? Buck fever? Do they practice 100 yards all day long only and never dial in their close ranges  :chuckle:? I think there's a ton of answers that could fit lol.

To add suspense to the show?
The best equipment in the world is useless to the idiot who doesn't understand it.

Im talking the deer is eating the freshly piled grain put at exactly 30 yds and they shoot over, shoot under or just plain miss but they are "PROS"

And alot of the time it is elk, a vital area on an elk is huge! But they miss or butt shoot them standing still.

Unless a branch is touched or the animal moves unexpectedly (hey, I think I'll take a step "now"), there is no excuse to miss a big game critter at 30 yards unless they just picked up their bow for the first time yesterday  ;)

Why do they show that at all? I mean, not trying to further open any sore subjects but they edit the videos why not edit that out? Unless it's an actual good lesson like yea animal moved, watch for branches, oh I am shaking so bad I need to calm down -type of stuff. A clean miss for no reason doesn't seem TV worthy.

Ahh sir, that may be the crux of the biscuit right their.  Perhaps, just perhaps, the super duper TV sponsored hunters are not so super duper after all  ;)

:yeah: ....alot of the super hunters are pretty impressive individuals...but there are a few I shake my head at

In all reality stuff happens...eventually ....there's a million reason why a miss occurs....usually excitement...tunnel vision...the shakes....adrenaline....steep hills !!

Eventually your going to miss or have a less then ideal shot....when that happens go ahead and ask your self this question again

Seems like a lot of people on the shows aren't that much better  hunters. They just spend a lot time hunting.

more importantly they have the money to buy air time. Having a show ain't cheap.

No way Im saying I am Great.. Hell I have missed a ton in my first two years.  But these people are Pros with the best of the best?  Miss at 30 yds, every single evening one show in a 5 hour period has a miss at this range. i find that strange...  Hence the thread
