I have a Zink that came with a DVD and has never sounded right, it sticks all the time and is really high pitched.  I also have a clearance cheapo of some sort that I use 95% of the time.

I think it is time to invest a bit of money, any suggestions for something under $100 that is easy for a beginner to pick up and pretty much tried and true?

Hopefully you have your call by now and are blissfully disturbing the neighbors with you practicing in the garage!
I absolutely love it. I think it is going to replace the DC on the lanyard. It reminds me of the daisy cutter but it has even more rasp and bark. Great call! I see a rm pothole in the near future.

I would suggest the rm cnc acrylic cwf! There are 3 colors on sale for $85. Also I really like the echo diamondwood/poly double reed timber I think they are $50 new. Very easy to blow for me and I am very very far from being an expert on a call.

Wingman, once you drink the RMC punch it's hard to stay away!! You should join the FB RMC page. Stump makes some jaw dropping beauties out of stabilized wood.
