Statewide Burn Ban - Outdoor burning, including campfires, is banned on forestlands under DNR fire protection as of noon, Wednesday, August 17. See the Commissioner's Order.

Does DNR have burn bans?
Human activities are the top cause of wildfires. DNR uses burn bans as a tool to reduce human-caused wildfires during extremely hot and dry weather conditions. When a burn ban is in place it prohibits outdoor fires on all state, county, city, and private land under DNR fire protection, including all state forests, DNR-managed forestlands and DNR campgrounds. Restricting campfires and debris-burning helps to reduce the likelihood of potentially destructive and dangerous wildfires.
What are the consequences for starting a wildfire during a burn ban?
A burn ban violation is a crime. Anyone caught burning may be issued a ticket or prosecuted.
In addition to criminal prosecution, DNR may pursue civil actions against any person whose negligence is responsible for starting, or allowing, a fire to spread.
If your fire escapes, you will be responsible for paying for fire suppression personnel and equipment, as required by state law.
It is YOUR responsibility to know the burning rules.

I know during the snag canyon fire DNR was fighting on the fire on private property, I am guessing that means my private property falls under "DNR fire protection" and therefore the burn ban applies to me having fires on my property.

With this heat and how dry it is, I wouldn't be sparking a fire anywhere.  Not worth it

On the drive in to work today they were telling people to keep their cigarettes in the car.  Three brush fires along the highway this morning before 7am.  I think there were at least three during the afternoon drive yesterday.

What are people thinking?

If you pay the DNR fire protection tax (of course it has a much more sophisticated name then that) then you are under DNR protection. If you don't then you fall under your local fire department/district which may already have their own fire ban.

Obviously you two don't understand how important smores are to some people.  They're delicious.

With all the rain last week, I really don't think fire is a big risk on the DNR lands on the coast at the moment.

over here its terrible,just had friends down in crab creek last week working their butts off to keep from losing their homes,,This stuff moves fast...Oh I and love smores,but not at the risk of starting any fire...

Maybe not on the coast, as in...actually on the coast. But there was 4-5 fires on the side of the freeway  yesterday afternoon and Rainier10 and I must have been listening to the same radio station this morning. 3 fires before 7am. The radio folks were all asking people to please keep the cigarettes inside the car. My grass is as brown and dead as it gets right now.

If only we could figure out a way to only burn national forest.  The NE corner desperately needs more fires in the national forest.  Problem is that they usually end up burning private or timber company ground.
