South Sound Crabbing Secret Spot
« on: August 18, 2016, 03:26:31 PM »
Hello all,  I have been recreational crabbing off and on in the south sound now and the Dungeness seem to be sporadic at best.  Some success in the now swamped Boston Harbor area and some success around the delta.  Any other areas where people have had some success.  I don't want your secret spots, but would love some general locations to fish around in.  Thanks for any tips that might help.

Try deeper waters  :dunno:

Most people crab 100 ft or less, get out 150 to 200 ft.

Good tip,  I know some of the commercial guys are down 200 plus in the area.  Current is pretty bad many places in the south sound.  I am always a little leery of loosing gear

My normal spots stink this year.  Deep is good info.  160' to 200' with lots of weight and lots of flotation.  Off of Tolmie has been good in the past but I haven't tried this year.

Just out at Boston Harbor this morning. Stay out of Zangle cove and you will find crab. My boy and I culled through plenty of 6.5 and 7 inch crab to get some real mossies.Tons of subs too which seems to me a good sign. 55' to 65' because of the minus outgoing. Just get away from the 'boat bite'.

You got me, what's "boat bite"?
I need just one more hunt and I'll be satisfied ... Really! Just one more...

Folks can't decide where to go, so they fish by another boat. Next guy in line does the same. Before you know it the fleet has formed and everyone seems to think that is the spot. It can be comforting, but usually not real productive. For the same reason everybody likes to crab in the same area, and I hear dismal reports.

Thanks for the tips.  Good to hear crab are still being caught in less than 200 feet of water.
