Place to shoot
« on: August 24, 2016, 09:29:13 AM »
I'm driving between Olympia and Ilwaco next week and looking for a spot to stop off and shoot my son's air rifle with him for a while to break up the drive. We only need 10-20 yards distance. Does anyone have a suggestion of a safe and legal place not too far off a main road? Thanks for any help-

Are you taking 101 or I-5? If 101, just pull off in the Capitol Forest. It's not a firearm, so you can probably legally shoot just about anywhere.  :dunno:

Go down Hwy 12 from Elma past Porter and then up the C Line

Seems like Capitol Forest would be too close to Olympia if the intent is to break up the drive. But if you did want to go there, I'd go in at the Rock Candy Mtn. entrance off highway 8. If it were me I'd probably take the highway 6 route, and one spot would be just past the Pacific county/ Lewis county line. Turn right on Walville road and you'll only need to go about 1/4 mile and you'll be on state land.

That's not much of a break up of the drive if he stops at Capital Forest.  Might want to try closer to Raymond since that would be closer to the half-way point.

Around Mile Post 62 on Hwy 101 a couple miles north of Raymond are a couple of gated roads.  Should be able to pull off there and shoot.  :twocents:

Thanks! These are good options. The toughest part will be getting him back in the truck for the rest of the drive.
