Attempt at 100 yards today.
« on: February 08, 2009, 04:24:48 PM »
Well I was bored so I thought I would have some fun and try my hand at 100 yards. I like to try for groups at this range.

I have not shot my bow since mid december so I was a bit shaky. So much so that I only got in four rounds. My bow arm was getting pretty squirley on me.

I wish I was good enough to say that I don't miss the target at this range but then that just would not be telling the truth. Anyway as you will see in the sequence of pictures the number of arrows diminishes. I lost one cause it broke into pieces when it his some of my neighbors scrap metal behind the target.

Well it was fun and I am definatley going to be shooting more often to keep my form together. 6" groups or less is my goal when I shoot at 100 yards and I have done it but not today. Although I did get three in the last string to group quite well and pulled the other two shots off the target.

Enjoy the pic's and some shots of my gear.

does that block work pretty good as a target? holds up good? sort of easy to pull arrows out of?

Yes it works real well. I have had it sitting out in the weather for a couple years now and the surface is starting to get brittle and crumbly. I doubt that would happen if it was stored indoors.

I really enjoy using it and the arrows pull out real easy.

nice work...did you stack your pins or do you have 100yd pin on your sights? I have alot of room  here at the house but I rarely push it over 70yds which is my bottom pin.. I have stacked pins and took the distance to 80, but I kinda launched an arrow and it bounced off the shop and ended up smacking the fuel filter on my generator :chuckle: Once I get the off season jitters out of the way, I can hit the smaller glendell 3d buck in the bread basket out to 70 pretty much every arrow

Wow... that is a real long shot. Do you end up losing a lot of arrows shooting from that distance?

How about 185?
feature=related
Maybe I should try the xforce?

No I don't loose alot but losing a few is bad enough. I need to invest in some of those cedar bales for a back stop. They work really well except when they are new and wet you can hardly get your arrows out of them.

I have a 100 yard pin with room for probably a 130 yard pin. I shoot high poundage so my trajectory is quite low. I always start with 20 then jump to 40 through 100 with 10 yard gaps.

At 185 yards his pin is most likley covering most of the target. So holding still is all that is necessary to make the shots. Remember the smaller the target the tighter your groups will be.

At that range your pin would cover an entire paper plate.

There's a place where we sometimes shoot that has 3d targets at 50, 60,70 80, 100 and 150 yds.  We have competitions to see out of six shots who can hit it the most.  It's pretty much a guessing game since your just lobbing arrows in an ark.  Out of 30 shots the Deer 3d target might get hit 4 times.  It's just for fun and we would never shoot that far.  It's interesting how high up you have to aim.  It alot of fun though.

Yeah it's pretty cool.  Yeah there's six 3d targets (besides the 150yd one) and we shoot at them for quarters.  Whoever gets closest to the tiny metal ring wins the quarter.  We do that for awhile until we get cocky and then try to see out of six shots who hits the 150yd white tail the most times.  It's alot of fun.

How many elk were there?  Where there any bulls.  I'm starting to think heavily on hunting over there this year.  But it's hard because this will be my last year here for awhile and I have a good chance of getting drawn in the Peaches Ridge unit because of how many points I have.  So it's a tough one.

Looked to be about 6 cows is all.

I know how you feel. I would like to draw a big bull tag in the Blues but if I don't draw then I am stuck hunting spikes so my points( all 12 of them) are staying over here.

I will be applying for the Nooksack and Margaret and that's it.

It's a tough decision because if I get drawn it's nice because it's basically my back yard and I can easily scout it and there's some hogs up there.  But if I don't get drawn then it's back to chasing cows and spikes.  Unless I go back to where I went last year in the Alpine Wilderness area.  It would be cool to go over to the west side and actually have an opportunity at a branch bull but I don't have the time to scout over there plus what would I do with my points? Oh yeah I have one more question that field we were talking about is that area 652 or 654 Mashel?  I've tried looking it up on Go Hunt and on the maps but could never figure that one out.
