Knight little horn plunger won't stay locked to shoot?

So my gf just got a knight little horn and I can't get the plunger to stay locked to shoot am I missing something?? I have tried with safety's on and off.

New or used?

NEW: contact Knight

USED: I would clean the trigger assembly. 

Remove from rifle, clean with solvent of choice, and lubricate it.

It might have been messed with...might need to adjust it (if you are comfortable with this)

Yours might only have 2 screws, not 3 like the Timney.  Mine have 2.  I did buy an older Timney off EBAY, so I also have a trigger that has 3.


Also remember:  When you are re-installing the plunger after cleaning, you have to pull the trigger to get the plunger past the sear part.  DON'T force it past.

It is a brand new gun... But i took it apart last night and the part of the trigger that sticks up to catch the plunger was like stuck down so i cleaned it re assemble and seems to be fine now.

Glad you found the problem and that is the usual problem - but normally not till they have been shot several times...

One other thought - since it is a new Little Horn - it probably came with what Knight calls a Universal hammer... it has a cone on the face of the hammer to shoot 209 primers.... You might want to consider taking it to a machinist and have remove about 95% of the cone to offer a flat surface at the contact with the nipple - ESPECIALLY if you are shooting Musket Caps.  It will work better with #11 Mag caps but will eventually peen the nipple.

Oh shoot one more thing - if you are shooting the smaller #11 caps you might also want to switch out nipples.  The #11 caps normally do not fit very tight at all and tend to slip off the nipple.



The AMPCO is no longer available...  but the stainless steel one is...

I have not done this myself because I do not shoot Musket caps - but I have read online where the hammer punches a hole completely through the Musket cap which can really increase the blowback problem in the breech area.

I wouldn't worry about knocking down that dome.  My bighorn has one and I only shoot musket caps....for the last 9 years, and I've never put a hole in one, or damaged a nipple.  I do use the steel nipples from knight.  The trigger issue you had is common when the trigger is dirty.  Shoot the RWS musket caps, never had a problem with them going off.

I shoot musket caps with an un-modified hammer and have had NO problems
