I saw one 4*4 and a few cows opening morning. And nothing else. A lot of hunters and they all where calling alot. I'm not sure what to think about the increase in hunters.

Only (real) bugles I heard were at night on Friday, kept me awake most of the night.
First thing in the morning I picked the one that was making the most noise, got into a small herd of 6 cows and a small 3pt that I could see, not sure if he was the one that had been bugling all night or not.
Wind was wrong so I backed out and tried to get around to other side of drainage, guess I should have just stayed put, because I ran into other hunters spread out along road trying to figure out how to get into the woods and off the road, it is some pretty nasty brush and logging debris before you get into the trees.
They must have heard him too.
Pretty much how I spent the rest of Saturday just finding out where everybody else was hunting.
Sunday I went to another of my "secret" spots, after getting to where I had found elk before, I saw a few elk butts heading away from me.
Come to find out, 6 guys had walked the 3 miles in from other gate (Hampton Lumber) before daylight to get up on the hill I was coming in on from the state land side.  :bash:
Went to a friends private property to check it out, 120 acres with pasture and creek-bottom, only a few droppings and one good rub, that was it.
Was pretty amazed at how many new camps were in the area.

Saturday was silent...

Hunters everywhere.  There was 12 trucks parked on one gate, something I have never seen before in 18 years in this area.

Krout81, you've been in that unit three times longer than me. Bit I've seen the same volume in 681. 2014 was heavy to last year was light though. Yikes is all can say, I try to go in between 2-4am bit when I got to the gate this last Saturday at about 230 two vehicles where there :yike:... What can you do. I'm in a gold Forester with a cargo top and bike rack say hi if you see me. Wt

I also couldn't believe how many hunters were in the area, I have been going there for 8 years.  Probably double the amount as the years past.

Got into one herd with a 6 point in it on Tuesday but not comfortable with a 77 yard shot. I only spotted 3 other elk in the 5 1/2 days of hunting.

Good luck for the rest of the season
