2/7/09 coyote hunt
« on: February 09, 2009, 09:23:37 PM »
Fishing Is For Fools and I went east last weekend to shoot some dogs.  Saturday morning we had just left the truck and were hiking into one of our spots and we had a dog sound off behind us.  So we turned around and went to find him.  We spotted him on the frozen lake heading away.  We called and he was not interested.  So we went to where we were first going and set up.  Called for 10 minutes and FIFF said dog.  I could not see it and was asking him where.  Just then his alarm went off on his watch and the dog disappeared.  So we went back to the truck and hit another spot.  After a 3 mile hike we arrived.  Mid day and it was warm.  So we called and waited.  FIFF said dog I asked if it was coming in and he said it looked like it was laying down.  So we put the spotting scope on him and sure enough he was laying down. He was about 800 yards away.  I howled and he looked at us and had no interest in us so after 30 minutes his partner appeared and then they disappeared.  So we circled back about a mile and a half and came in from down wind.  We were going to flush them out.  Well FIFF went to where we thought they were and I was just walking around.  I crested a little hump and a dog took off in front of me.  BOOM!!!! YELP!! and then comes the male BOOM!!! THWACK!!! he spun and ran toward me and took one final one to the neck.  Both were shot at 150 and my second shot on him was at 130.  FIFF was pissed but it was fun with moving targets!  If they were standing still I would have missed. :chuckle:  So we looked for over an hour for her and only found chunks of meat and hair.  He laid where I hit him in the neck.  He is a good sized dog with a good coat.  His face was all scared up his ear was torn at one point.  Saw a few deer and heard a lot more song dogs that night on our way out.
