I respect that you don't want to post it, but it's too bad. I think you are robbing him more backs slaps than criticism. Anyone criticizing anyone for there legal animal isn't worth the air they are breathing anyway. Tell him congratulations. My first three Bulls were spikes. I'm not ashamed.
I killed a spike a few years ago with a Rimrock bull tag. The meat was far more important to me than the horns. Never regretted it for a second.I agree that I don't feel many people would give him a hard time, but everytime I say that I read a thread where some jackwagon does exactly that, so I don't blame you. Congrats to the young hunter, close quarters elk killing will seal the deal for him. He's an elk hunter for life now!
