Public Land
« on: October 03, 2007, 11:02:25 AM »
Hey just wondering (without giving away your spots!) where some decent public land is in Eastern WA for upland birds. I am hoping to get my shorthair out on some birds this year. Due to work I have not had him out very much the last couple years and theres not much going on the west side other then grouse. Thanks Jordan

not too sure about the quality of the hunting, but you could look at the winchester wasteway, the gloyd seeps wildlife area, and around rocky ford creek south of soap lake, that should get you started.
they're all within 3-4 hours drive from the wetside.

There are a few places around Yakima and a few around Pomroy/Clarkston that have the yellow WDFW signs on the fences with a phone number to call.  Prob all set for this year, but get the numbers and call for next year.  You will be surprised at the private land that is available.  The WDFW actually pays the farmers to let hunters on.  I have hunted some prime deer and elk country near Asotin this way.

Wells wildlife reserve.
The first bird may get the worm, but it's the second rat that gets the cheese.
