Got my moose down on Tuesday morning. We called a little bull in at first light on opening morning, let him go. It was pretty fun to bring him right in on top of us. I then spent three mornings working a decent bull, a couple miles in on the refuge. He had a cow with him, and wouldn't respond to calls. I had a brief opportunity for him on Tuesday morning, 500 yards, but he was moving fast. Then, while changing locations, we came across this guy on the road. While I would love to have harvested a mature, large racked bull, I am much too intelligent to pass up the gift that this bull was. No packing out, just loading him into the truck. And a freezer full of fantastic moose meat!
I got a LOT of great help from folks on this site, big thanks out to Brian (Pendoreilleadventures), PA Ben, and Benhuntin. Great guys! And thanks to Jerry (Elkaholic123) for scheduling a week of vacation to help with the grunt work.
Also met up with other site members who were hunting. Cascade, thanks for the info and help- I hope you get your cow! Blindluck, fill those two bull tags!
