Son's first year elk hunting.
« on: October 14, 2016, 01:41:54 AM »
My son's first year of elk hunting. He been with me last few years and enjoyed laying the boot tracks down. Surprisingly he never complains. Kid is all go. I was thinking bout taking him to the Lewis river unit for modern rifle. I've just moved here from Oregon last year. So knowledge of the terrain and decent area that not covered in pumpkins is what I'm looking for. Not afraid to put the miles down. Actually I prefer that. I was thinking around the blue lake area.  What is your guys take on that area? Any suggestions/pm's are welcome. Thanks and good luck.

Have fun and good luck. Most of the NF land is pretty choked with tree garbage. Try to find some of the areas where there has been thinning and proscribed burning over the last two or three years. It may be too late to get that info before the opener, however. Call the Gifford Pinchot headquarters in Vancouver. Other than that, DNR land will have more open forage spaces. I hope you and your son are both successful.
