Duck boat laws??
« on: October 03, 2007, 08:33:02 PM »
Hey, this is kinda a boat question more than ducks but any way.

I plan to duck hunt this year but dont wanna commit to the boat money pit so I wanna stick a toe in the water. Im wondering, If I wanna hunt state land with say a 14 ft...or even 12 ft john boat with say a 5 hp engine. Do I need to get a tag? registration? anything like that? or can I just hunt?

If that makes it into a registration requirement... what about a 12-14 ft canoe with just a trolling motor?

Basically Im looking for a one man duck rig... just for puddles and tame water thats cheap and easy and doesn't need tags, taxes, registration.

whats the size, horsepower cut off for state waters in Washington?? :dunno:

Thanks in advance!

oh, I hear the port area outside the Nisqually wildlife refuge is great for ducks?? TRUE?
Thats 10 mins from my house :tung:

I believe it is anything over 12 and the motor is something like a 15 horse or something. I will check up on it (cause I am curious now...lol) and I will get back to you.

Awesome, thanks. It would be really useful to know if I can avoid it by getting a smaller outboard or by backing it down to a 10 ft boat or whatever. Im guessing my canoe with trolling motor would always work but Id like to go as big as possible without crossing over into registration!
