Getting a shot
« on: November 01, 2016, 11:24:55 AM »
I need help. My wife's uncle has a field and the herd is in ther every year. Last year there was a 6x6 a 4x4 and a spike. Problem is that they enter at one end at night feed across about 600 yards and hit the treeline 10 min before shooting light. Can't get a shot off. Inside the treeline is a maze of elk trails. I need to get above them and hunker down problem is  there are a hundred intercept points. How early should I get above them and will the bulls stay on the same trail as the rest of the herd? Should I get to the edge or stay 100 200 300 yds uphill from them. There is a spur rd that dead ends about 600 yds above the field sometimes they cross it sometimes they skirt it. It allows easy quite access to get above them.

get as close as you can without spoking them , wind is key.

just invite me to come hunt and we can split up.
that will mean they will 100% not come my way and should find their way directly to where you are set up  :chuckle:
I'm assuming archery?
I would, depending on the wind, set up close to where you think they will be exiting the field that day.
Kind of a crap shoot I guess, but you are already ahead of the game knowing that they will be in a particular field, entering at one point, exiting at the other.

wind is the key for sure.  They get even the smallest whiff of you and you are done!!!  Cant help you anymore than that.  Not without seeing the exact lay out.
