Hoping to hear from a fellow Master Hunter
« on: November 03, 2016, 07:32:56 PM »
How many of you guys will be hunting the MH late archery elk season? This would be my first year participating in the MH hunt. I have some questions I'm happy to ask in private to anyone who's willing to offer some info. I own property in this area and know most of 3911 pretty well but have no idea what to expect this late in the year as I hunt early archery elk every year, but fully intend to hunt Public land.

Am I correct to understand a MH can use a rifle, even if he/she has a eastern archery tag? If anyone wants to chat or share ideas(I'm not totally green;))

Good luck everyone, so glad to have another chance at a cow!

And p.s. if any members want to grab a pint at the brick or the boose let me know!

The deer are exactly where you find them, and no where you dont!

3911 is a tricky, tough hunt.  Yes, you can use any legal weapon (keep in mind local firearm restrictions, too...), regardless of tag, for 3911.  WDFW has a primer on the Master Hunter website that can be helpful.

pretty sure you have to buy a 2nd elk tag for the MH hunt. You can't use your general archery tag on it.

Not participating in that hunt, but you cannot use your Archery Tag unless the General Archery Season is open and you satisfy all other requirements regarding tackle.  You would use your Master Hunter Elk Tag.

In the November-December later portion of the 3911 hunt you can only tag a cow with your unfilled general season tag, whether it be archery, muzzle or modern.  You can also use whichever weapon you want, as long as you wear orange.

If you hunt the earlier portion of 3911 (Aug. 1 up to general rifle opener)  you must use the 3911 second elk tag.

This is correct.
(reference regs, page 51, **note at bottom of page for validation that you can use your unused tag)
(reference the MH FAQ page for validation that you can use a modern rifle with your archery tag......   this is about depredation control, not sport hunting.)

Agree with the others...your second elk 3911 tag is only good from aug-oct....I think..the 26th this year.  If unfilled in that time it becomes soup.  You are then left with your late Eastside general tag to use.  Been a master hunter for 11 years now and have been pretty successful in that unit.  Send me a pm and I'll tell you what I know
