Guatemela Nov 3-7 2016
« on: November 08, 2016, 05:29:42 PM »
Upon completion of our trip in 2015 to one of the most fabulous fishing spots in the world, we decided we had to do it again - but doubling our size.  So, a few invites sent out to some awesome guys and right off the bat we had our crew established for another wild ass ride south.  Booked the reservations, and got the flights to the “Sail Fish Capital of the World” – Casa Vieja Lodge in Guatemala.  Another freaking “Culu Milo” trip!

We chartered both the 35ft Contenders, split up the crews so everyone got to fish with each other and we were off.  I don’t know exact numbers but I am betting releases to the boat was in excessive of 75 Sailfish released at the boats.   Was beyond super fun; lots of beer drunk, lots of lies told, but friendship was absolutely the best!  Thanks to those that came along for such an awesome fun four days…   Other will have photos to add as they down load, and of course super excited to see what Sammy puts together for a video!  Hats off to the Lodge Casa Viejo, for another spectacular job!  Extremely well done in all aspects…  If you have the opportunity to go down south to Guatemala for amazing action, do so! You will not be disappointed.   Already thinking of 2017/2018…..

In Guatemala, strictly Catch and Release for Sails, government really involved to assist other 3rd world countries in doing same thing to improve Bill fishing...  Second year in a row for us to go, basically $3400 each for everything minus flights  ($800).  Awesome food, drinks, boats fully stocked with beer, water, snacks, quality gear, super knowledgeable deckhands and best Captains ever working for you.   It also includes rides to and from Airport - 1st class operation for sure.  Normally they do not want folks going outside their area to ensure they do not get a bad rep and not sure about the surfing stuff, but maybe???    They wake you each day at 0555, breakfast at 0630, on little bus to Marine, on boat to water by 0715.  Never back to dock before 1630-45...  Drinks upon return at the pool with more snacks, dinner four course meal and then drinks and chill if you like.  By day three your exhausted from the heat and freaking awesome fishing....  It was a Once in a Lifetime trip last year which has become an annual event and will be for years to come I am sure...  Boats we used were 35ft Contenders with twin 300hp...  Fast and maneuverable to get where the fish are..
One got a Dorado, the other lost one, we targeted Marlin and Tuna for half a day til we went back to Sails to finish off the trip.  Highly recommend for anyone that wants to tackle and repeat tackle and repeat on Sailsfish!  Not like Florida where One sail is great day, these are awesome Pacific Sails, excellent runs and quality drag gear..    Biggest probably 120lbs and smallest around 70lbs...
