Camp 9 snow
« on: November 27, 2016, 04:39:41 AM »
As of 2am this morning, 35 degrees and snowing at the junction of the W500 and W550. Finding animals should get a bit easier! Good luck!

Was out cruising those roads last night and didn't seem that cold at the time. Wish we would have gotten some weather.  Sat on a secluded cut last few hours of shooting light. Nothing came in. Hunted Friday in a different area of the Winston a few miles behind a gate and got on a young rag horn, glassed up another bull across the drainage from me and also glassed up a cow with a bad limp. Would have went after her but she was a mile away from me and on the move into thick reprod. Seems tough to find any actual herds.  It's a onesie twosie game now days.

Get up high near the 1130 and walk in behind the gate at the end of the 1131, the timber to the right is promising

This has been my fifth year hunting the Winston late season and I've definitely noticed less camps. Judging by the 2015 harvest stats for Winston I'd imagine a lot of camps have just stopped going. Used to always be a big camp at the junction of Camp Nine and the 550 line. Last year general season Archers killed 32 cows there. Big arse unit...32 cows...just sayin.   :dunno:

3 pt + this year for late archery......  gonna be tougher

I sure hope nobody is shooting bulls cause it's antlerless only late season in the Winston.

Back from hunting 5 days, 3" of snow in camp and more higher.  Left trailer in place to come back up though fresh sign was really sparse.  Hope the snow/ ice doesn't keep it up there until spring.....

Had two deer at 12 yards while I was pretending to be a stump- they seemed curious about the strange bump.
Talked with several hunters and few reported seeing anything.  Had one beautiful sunny day Tuesday.   8)

Any recent snow reports along the 550/ camp nine roads?

Lots more snow and deer than elk.   :o
One lone track encountered possibly by your trailer. Right side on a Y by chance?

Anticipating Lots of snow- levels forecast at 1500'.  May be dragging the trailer to lower ground.
Older trailer does OK for us.  May be selling soon, wife got a fancier one that we probably won't be taking rough camping

Thanks for the info.

Message enroute.

Got the trailer off the hill Tuesday,  had to cut two trees off the road to get to camp Monday.

Had 10" deep snow in camp, more in the open areas.  Came home Weds afternoon- glad we missed the I 5 ice today

Interestingly, the tracks I saw had no blood in them like previous years.  Wonder if the hoot rot problem is less.
