Lake Ozette to Cape Alava
« on: November 28, 2016, 07:26:58 PM »
My oldest daughter and I did a 3 day 2 night backpack trip to Cape Alava over the thanksgiving day weekend. We started at 9:00am thanksgiving morning and because of the wind and rain we took our time on the cedar board walk. We made a couple of stops on the way to take pictures but our cameras were fogging up from the weather. When we were within a half mile of the campsites we saw this 3pt buck.

After we set up camp we did a short hike north to the cape and then we came back to eat and go to sleep. The next day was broken clouds and sun and we hiked down to wedding rocks to check out the petroglyphs for the day. Day 3 was check out the beach by camp and then head out to the trailhead. Here are some pictures of our backpack trip.

We had a great time. We have never been to Cape Alava and it was nice to see the difference between Sand Point and Cape Alava. We have camped at Sand Point a few times so it was nice to see some different coastline.

Great hike! I have never considered doing it this time of year but I will now. It can be a zoo in the summer. That is one of my favorite spots in the state.

It actually gets well used out there at times in the winter.  Lots of the mountain hikes either close or are too difficult, so people head to the coast.  The coastal campgrounds really empty out though.
