Tried bowhunting, ended up with some birds
« on: November 28, 2016, 09:26:12 PM »
Spent 4 days bowhunting for deer in Colville area, got on a couple, but spooked them before I could even raise my bow. Saw a ton of grouse, ended up hitting one with an arrow this morning. Was pretty excited, first grouse with a bow. Started feeling guilty for shooting a bird without my dog, called off the hunt and took the dog out for some pheasant hunting. He put up 3 roosters and 6 hens in less than two hours, but only one rooster in range for my 28 ga. Here's to hoping he forgives me for hunting without him haha

I'm sure your dog would've done the same if you weren't there. Good looking birds!

Looks like a great time! Don't feel too guilty :)

One time I was bow hunting elk in Oregon when I happened upon the largest group of grouse in my life! There was 20-30 birds flying and running all around. I shot one w my bow. My dog was back at camp so I hiked back as fast as I could. Grabbed the dog and shotgun. When I returned we couldn't find a single bird! I should have stayed and continued hunting w my bow. Luckily we did t cross paths with any bulls while Tito g the shotgun ;)

Are there pheasant in the Colville area or did you go somewhere else to find them?
