Idaho Unit 13
« on: December 01, 2016, 01:06:07 PM »
Any of you ever drew a tag or spent time in the 13 unit? Thinking there is a good chance I will put in for the unit this coming season. Ive spent a little time there mainly driving the road to pittsburg landing. Does any one maintain that road when snow hits? Looking for ideas on where to camp or stay and any other info some one would maybe be willing to share?
  Thanks

mostly private and what isn't is hammered near pittsburg landing. If it has antlers there it dies.  Never seen snow on it and if it does Im sure its just up near the top. Pretty warm near the river

After a lil more research it looks like the north end of the unit was the Hitchcock ranch that the two brothers out of Texas who own a fracking company bought? Sounds like the old owners would allow hunting with permission but the new owners have made it very clear that will not be the case. I would have to agree with the size of that area that's private and the number of tags allowed the area most likely it becomes very small in a hurry.

Buy an OnXmap for Idaho. We were up there for 6 days riding our ATVs all over. Be prepared, because ATVs are 100 % legal to ride every where, even behind gates.

not everywhere in ID... a unit right next 13 has plenty of gated roads that DO NOT allow atvs on them

Must be private then. Every place I've been in Idaho that has a gate that IS gated, has ORV tracks going around it of some sort. I'm not going to get in a pissing match, as usual, about ATV's.

4-wheeler tracks around a gate doesn't make it legal. It means some people don't follow the rules. I'd agree that there are areas in Idaho that have roads that are gated but allow 4-wheeler access like Potlatch land but not all gated roads in Idaho can be traveled on with wheeled vehicles. I'd check with the Forest Service office for clarification as a lot of roads have seasonal restraints with specific dates given.
