I've been kicking around the idea of a new grouse gun to replace the single shots I currently use. The new gun would only get out a handful of times per year so I can't justify spending a lot.
Are any of the lower priced O/U guns worth a look?
Just peeking online I've seen O/Us from Mossberg, CZ, Iver Johnson, and a few companies I've never heard of that are under $500.
Try to search for Stoeger Condor , those shotguns are well shotguns. I think for under $450/500 you can find a Russian Baikal, which are bomb proof. Mossberg does make U/O shotgun for less than 400 bucks but it's all synthetic stock and doesn't even look cool, and the ones they make with wood stock are around 650 bucks.

i have a baikal 12 ga o/u that my father gave me when I was ten or so.  It has been a great gun for close to 20 years of hunting.  I have worn the blueing off in the areas I hold it and had some issues with rust when I lived down south.  All and all a great gun for for the price with thousands of round through it.  I think they go for around 350 maybe a little bit more now but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Man those Baikals are some sweet looking shotguns. They even make single shot for under 150.00.

Charles Daly Sabatti's or Miroku's can be found at good buys.  Do the Japanese ones if you have a choice.

My single Baikal .410 is functional and even easy to look at after some stripping, checkering and refinishing the wood

I would generally steer clear of anything cheaper than a CZ, from the cheap O/U's I've swung most of them feel like 2x4's.  I've heard good things about Yildiz O/U's but I guess they're only sold at Academy Sports, you'll see a few on Gun Broker though.

Low end new, CZ, Lanber, Dickenson.  Make certain is fits and swings well, too many 2x4's out there.

Here's a link to a number of used  o/u's, some at very reasonable prices.

http://www.simpsonltd.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=O%2FU&search_in_description=1&sort=2a&page=1

There can be some nice guns  and some real dogs, read the descriptions and don't be afraid to call them, they will pull it out and look at it while your on the line.  I've bought a number of guns from them.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Make mine a Minaska

After weighing my budget and expectations, I recently bought a 20 gauge 870. Affordable, reliable, made in the U.S.
And after some horse trading it didn't cost much out of pocket. With coho in the crapper again, it's probably going to get a lot of use.
