I am really opposed to the big boomers. There would be a possibility of a round going through the target animal and "accidentallly" hitting a poor wolf!

Good grief, what's the point? You can shoot 2 feet in front or behind and still get a kill.

I checked a guy east of Casper once who had shot a whitetail doe with a Barrett .50BMG - didn't get to see the kill, but his deer looked just like that one.  I did advise him that the rules require a lead or expanding point bullet to hunt big game in Wyoming - the look on his face was priceless, then he said "Can you imagine?".
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Good golly, how did that thing run after the hit?

 :yeah: :yeah: :yeah:

If hadn't seen it I could not believe that, how does animal of that size go that far with that much damage?   :yike:really really unbelievable.  :chuckle:

And it's a whimpy whitetail, not a robust MTN muley.

Family friend killed an elk in Idaho with a 50 BMG @800yards. He said he aimed a little further back on a broadside shot. Dropped in its tracks and mostly gutted. On another note, I don't see anothing wrong with using any of the .400-.600 doubles if you have on and want time in the field with it. Use fmj's and think about  shot placement. It's what people in Africa have been doing for the last 50+ years when hunting dangerous game and an antelope between 25-200 lbs steps out and the hunter wants the cape for a mount. Just food for thought.

That video clearly shows why it's entirely unethical to hunt deer with a 50 cal.  Just not enough knock down power.  That deer ran at least a mile.
