Finally made some beaver sausage tonight and it turned out great! I put a whole write up in the cooking section if you want to read it. http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php?topic=207033.msg2754628#msg2754628
I'm going to start saving some meat from every beaver from now on.

Decided to start going after cats yesterday. Put out one single door trap just down the road from my house where I caught a cat last year and this morning there was brand new cat tracks in the snow about ten feet away from the trap. This is a brand new trap i built last month so I'm sure it's still got some paint and human smell which I'm guessing is why he avoided it. I decided to throw an extra one out a half mile away and it's one I built last year and has been outside in the bushes the whole time so it should be scent free for the most part. It's a double door too so I'm hoping it will coax in a cat who is a little more trap shy, or even possibly a coyote. Never know!

The main thing that was holding me back on cat trapping was bait but the last two weeks has got me plenty of beaver chunks to last through most of the season. I went out and set all my swim throughs back into the area I had them in the last month. There is still plenty of beaver in the area plus I have a good chance of getting an otter or two if I leave them out long enough. Found a different spot this morning that has a ton of fresh chewing just from the last few days. There is fresh drag marks in the snow that lead to a picture perfect bottleneck spot between two active deep parts of the pond. Hopefully I'll have something tomorrow.

I figured today I'd go look at my pre bait spots and see what there is for sign. Only had three cages here at the house and i figured I'd probably wouldn't need any extra so that's all I brought with me today. Should have brought more because first three spots had cat sign so that's all I bothered checking and setting today. Second spot could have been from birds because I let the meat hang by a branch and I could visualize a crow or Raven eating from the branch so hard to say. My third spot had the meat and wire totally missing from the tree I hung it from. Wouldn't surprise me if that was from a cougar but who knows.
I have four cat sets and six drown sets out and with this crazy weather coming thru it should be a busy day with fur tomorrow. Or I just completely jinxed myself and tomorrow will be a waste of gas and time.  :bash:  :chuckle:
