Nikon 3-9x40 BDC Riflescope
« on: January 01, 2017, 08:44:09 PM »
Any experience with these?  My wife wants to try deer hunting for the first time this year and I am considering putting on if these on a family 30-30.  Don't bother telling me not to scope a 30-30 lol, I already know.  I want my wife to have a fun, safe, productive first trip and I'm willing to scope a 30-30 to keep the cost low.  At $90 it just feels like I can't go wrong.

If you'd rather not spend the money, I've got a rifle she can borrow, then put your $90 toward a new rifle later if she decides to continue.

Had one on a 243 for a while, then on my 17hmr. I loved it, seemed clearer than a vx-1 Leupold. Actually now that I think about it it may have been a 50mm obj Lens. But I'd buy another. Especially for $90 for a low recoil rifle.

LOL the area we are going to has a max visibility of 100ish yards.   That's why I am ok with it.   Worst case I suppose I can let her shoot my .308 but I think she will be more comfortable on the 30-30

My other option would be mounting a new 3.5-10x50 vortex diamondback to my .308 and giving her that for the year, which I would be fine with.  I can shoot archery this year.  Huntnphool whatcha think?

The classifieds get filled with gear purchased for first time hunters that never go again, I'd not invest unless she is sure she is going to want to go again. :twocents:

What is wrong with the scope you have on the .308 now? If you only have visibility to 100 yards, I can't imagine you need to change it.

Why is it one or the other, why can't you both use the same rifle while out together?Doubtful you see two legal bucks standing side by side during rifle season. :dunno:

If you do need a scope for the .308, you could always put the 3-9 on it for $90 too.

Natches has Bushnell Legend Ultra 1.75-5 for about a Ben Franklin right now.  I would lean toward a smaller power scope than a 3-9 unless I already owned it.
