There are plenty of aggressive hunter that put 10 miles a day plus on that carry a side arm. I can only tell you my personal experience. 2 time in my life already in the woods hunting. I have had a side arm save my butt. If I had tried to get my rifle off I would have been mauled. Once it was in my pack and once I had the strap across my body while climbing up some steep country.
