Remote Cat Hunt

Pretty sure a little of both? I know Dale utilizes snowmobiles a lot.

I've heard Chile and Argentina are good too.  But I don't think South American lions get as big as the North American ones.  Colorado still allows dogs (last I heard) and puts out big kitties.

I may not be understanding what you are looking for.  Most settings, even out of trucks or snow machines, are remote.  Hound hunting has, in my experience, been one of the most physically demanding forms of hunting I have done.  Can you clarify remote?

Unit 17 of the Selway would be a good example.
Perhaps I'm wrong but I believe the more remote the older the age class of cat.

Anything remote is going to be snowed out. I use to utilize snow mobiles and sleds for my dogs. to get as far back as I could, but the cats follow the prey down as they migrate, they are not going to be hanging way back in the high country if all the game is down in wintering areas. 

I guess it would be different if you were looking for desert style dry ground hunting.

Starting a cat off Highway 20 is exactly what I don't want to do but I get your point.

There are ways to hunt lions in the backcountry.  People use mules or horses to get back in the wilderness areas, or boat upriver to spots to cast dogs out.

We can find you a big cat up in the Selkirks for sure.  We rarely use horses or mules though.  If you want remote, we can do that.  Much of the unit is WAY up north and requires a 20+ mile snowmobile ride to get into, then it's a lot of work because access is tough.  We catch big cats there, but it's not a cakewalk.

We use snowmobiles to access snowed out areas, I'm often 20 miles from my truck, but we hunt areas that have road access be it by truck or snowmobile. It sounds like you want a wilderness hound hunting experience without the use of motorized travel. Go to the Idaho Outfitters Board website and search for outfitters in the Selway and Frank Church Wilderness areas. There are game herds that winter back in those areas and there are outfitters who hunt cats there.

Cats have been hunted hard in most states and in BC and Alberta, there are plenty of cats but big toms are not as numerous as they once were no matter where you go. To be honest Washington has some of the best odds of finding a record book tom, in 1987 we killed the former P&Y World Record in Washington, it's too bad we can no longer use hounds in WA.

In Arizona, cougars can be hunted year 'round. I've seen 2 in 3 1/2 months of living here.

There are big cats in every state that has them. What style of hunting do you want to do is going to decide where you should go. There is no guarantee you will find a big cat even if you spent the entire year hunting with an outfitter. You should look for an outfitter that offers a good enjoyable hunt and hope to find a good cat. The best bet to find a big tom is to go with an outfitter that has access to an area that the general public does not and they only take a limited amount of hunters. Do you want to hunt in the snow or dry ground?
