Oak Creek feeding station photos

Since we can't hunt, we might as well stare at them, right? 

One of the staff at the feeding station said there were 82 branched bulls and 27 spikes there that day.  My neighbor helps at the Cowiche Mill feeding station a few miles away and said there were about 1400 total animals.  Yakima herd is looking good!  I especially like the big tall 6x6 and the really pretty 7x7.

There's a 2x2 that looks so much like a spike it's just mean.  A good lesson to watch carefully before you shoot!

Also, the one with a spike on one side and a branched other side - that's a legal spike bull, right??

Oh, the first pick is not at Oak Creek.  It's at the Cleman Mtn sheep feeding station.  Great looking herd of sheep as well.  I just got a kick out of the cows hanging out with them

Buzz2401, my neighbor keeps inviting me to help him feed but I haven't been able to find the time.  I'm hoping to get out there within the next couple weeks (I've never been there myself, though I've hiked next door at Snow Mtn Ranch a few times). 

I'll try and remember to post on here if there are tips to getting access.  I guess I've been assuming it was near a road like the Oak Creek Station?

Its right on Cowiche Mill Road but it is up on a hill and so you can't see elk from road.

The 1X2 would be legal in a "spike Bull" unit but not legal in a "True Spike" unit.  There are a couple "True Spike" units up around E-Burg.

I've been wanting to get a look at the Cowiche road station for awhile but seems to be off limits and don't wanna get in trouble.

You can see to it if you stop your car in the Snow Mountain parking area. If not there, you could back track on Cowiche Mill a few hundred yards and then be able to see them. From my house I can see the entire herd. A few days ago there was an enormous bull that was hanging out and then wondered up and over the hill. Haven't seen him since. His huge rack was extremely visible over 2000 yards away with 10 by 42 binocs.

I think I know that bull, OutHouse. I watched a big 8x9 (I think) feeding with some cows on the hill opposite Cowiche Mill Rd a couple weeks before rifle season. I guess he's luckier than the guys who managed to draw a tag for him .

I wouldn't be surprised if it is the same animal. It's kind of nice to know that he survived the season, but I also feel for the guy who drew a tag and didn't fill it. Shoot, I know a guy who drew big bull in Cowiche twice within 5 years of each other on a small number of points. Some guys have all the luck!

real dark horned bull? I'm pretty sure he ran ran me at about 100 yards during the general season out there on opening day. It's a wonder he didn't get smacked.

That's what I noticed as well, looks like you can almost see spots!!! Bruce Richards told me a while ago he thought the elk were breeding really late.

Nice pics and nice animals. Can't figure out what's with the cow's right ear in the two pics of the spike with the branch on one side, look's like it's split.
