Garmin Fenix 3
« on: January 20, 2017, 06:40:54 PM »
Does anyone have any experience using the Garmin Fenix 3 in a hiking/backcountry GPS function? Reading about it, it appears it could replace my Rhino...

For instance, I typically waypoint my truck and usually 1 or 2 destination waypoints. It appears this unit is still Basecamp compatible for pre set waypoint navigation.

Thanks

I replaced my garmin rino for the garmin fenix 3 this last year and besides the fact I can't talk to people on my location it is one of the best equipment pieces I have bought in years.   GPS way point is accurate and quick.  I can't remember the exact amount of waypoints it can hold but it's more then you will need for a trip.

Thanks guys...

Will these track log from waypoint to waypoint?

I believe they both do. Lots of YouTube vids on both for reveiws.

Suunto way points-

I like the breadcrumb function too.
The suunto records everything through an app and makes pretty cool movies once it is done recording your trip. It looks like something off of Google Earth while it is showing your route.
I went with the sun to because it got a little better battery life and was more focused hiking where the Garmin comes pre-loaded with a bunch of different activities.

The garmin has a color display though.

I have the Fenix 3 and its a great watch that can do more things than I need it to do.  The hiking and way points is a nice feature and it could take the place of a GPS system.  I however prefer using my Garmin Rhino when hunting and scouting.

The Suunto is another great watch that you cant go wrong with.

Garmin's customer service is amazing.  Long story short, I had a Garmin Fenix 2 that quite working after three months; I bought it new for $265. I called Garmin told them what happened, Garmin Rep asked "do you have the receipt if so can you email it" I emailed them the receipt. The Garmin Rep calls me and says " we are sending you a new Garmin Fenix 3 since we no longer have the Fenix 2 in stock"
