Leupold VX6 personal reviews?
« on: January 24, 2017, 02:13:56 PM »
Anyone on here have any first hand experience with the Leupold VX6 3-18x50. Almost seems to good to be true. Like the idea of 3x in the brush and 18x when out on the tundra.

thanks

I read a few of the online reviews and a majority are 5 star but then there are those 1 star outliers that make you wonder...
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

I just picked one up. So far I like it but haven't put in down range yet.
It's a big scope compared to what I'm used to.  Quality and functions are what you'd expect from Leupold.
The one free BDC dial is a nice addition.

I picked mine up from Optics Planet, couldn't find it locally.

One review I read was upset by how hard the zoom was to turn.  It seams just fine to me

I've been looking at purchasing a VX6 3-18x50 myself and from what little I've spent playing with one at Cabela's I was rather impressed with the optics.  If you are serious about purchasing one, Natchez Shooters Supply has the 3-18x50 on sale for $949 which is the best price I've seen them go for.

Also, Leupold has a new version out called the VX6 HD.

I also have a new 3x18 but have been busy hunting and have not mounted it on a rifle yet. I did a lot of looking and it seemed like a good option so I bought one with my points for $949 on sale at cabelas during the holidays.

Great glass, great image, but big and heavy. I don't know what was up with my 2-12 for the short time I had it, but I couldn't shoot worth a damn with it. With a fixed 6x I average between .3-.4" unless I pull it and mess up myself. With the 2-12 set on 12x I was shooting over an inch every time. Took it off, along with the Talleys, put it back on. Same thing. No matter how I adjusted it, even the eyebox, couldn't get it to shoot. Put my 6x back on, groups came back down.

I also asked the opinion of a well known custom rifle maker on the VX6... great glass but terrible tracking was what he said.

They're coming out with a vx6 HD this year. Might be worth waiting on.

I have a 2x12 and a 3x18x44.  Fantastic scopes.  I've had them out killing rocks to 700 yards and they are amazing.  The free CDS dial is awesome.  Range it, dial it, kill it.  Worked perfectly on an Idaho bull at 452 yards.  Put one 190gr. Berger right through the boiler room.
Thank you for the Elk goes to Bearpaw Outfitters!

Wsmnut

PS.  I've had the 2x12 for 4 years now and have seen no instances of tracking problems.  Zero issues with the 3x18 either.
Enjoy!

I upgraded my VX3 3.5X10X50 a couple of years ago to the VX6 3X18X50 and couldn't be happier!!! The VX 3 has phenomenal glass but I wanted a little more zoom in my old age. The zoom dial on the VX3 in my case is much stiffer than the VX6. Love the new Glass

The VX6 at $949 for the 3-18x50 makes it pretty appealing but the new VX6 HD at $1800, not so much.

I am in the same boat as I am going to pull the trigger on a custom build very soon.  I got a pretty good hookup for Leupold glass.  I will have to decide between a great deal on the VX6 HD or Nightforce at their standard price.

I'm in the same boat, but I don't have a leuppy hookup. Been looking at all scopes and don't really like the feel of tue vx6 elevation clicks. I much prefer the mark 4 scopes... leaning heavily toward the nightforce for my build

I'm sure this will ruffle some feathers but if you're looking for a long range scope and plan on dialing up and down for yardage, I'll take the NF every time.

The build I'm considering putting a VX6 on I wanted something with really good glass and a little lighter than my NF as well as it will be nearly all hold over shooting with this build and the VX6 with Varmint reticle could very well fit the bill.

Got the vx6 4-24 cds with varmit reticle. Works great.  Buddy and I one shot elk kills at 460 and 660 yards with them this year. The vx6 hd just out is even better with two turns zero stop.

On sale they were $1199 but the new ones are gonna be 400 higher for awhile.
