Trophy trapping
« on: February 04, 2017, 01:27:13 PM »
I'm always pretty excited when I get a tagged beaver. It's like shooting a banded duck or goose. Just some interesting info, this beaver was caught 6/25/15 by Dfw and weight 44 pounds. I caught her this week and she was 49 pounds. I caught her about a half mile upstream from where she was originally caught. After she was caught by the Dfw she was moved about a mile and a half as the crow flies down stream and across the Yakima river. She was moved to a holding tank but escaped when the tank wasn't closed correctly.

Cool. I didn't know DFW even trapped beavers or tagged them. Figured they just had NWCO guys rid them as needed when they became a problem.

Why in hell would they relocate a beaver?  Moving a problem from one place to another.  That makes sense.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

It was a relocation project they were doing the last 5 or so years. They were taking them from Ellensburg to tri-cities and relocating them to the higher elevations in central Washington.

They are studying them so that they can put them on the endangered list if they can't confirm 100,000 breeding colonies across the state. TSS---Trap Skin Shut-up

Nice job
What is interesting is that she only put on five pounds in what: one year seven months  :dunno:
I wonder if she was on a diet  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: "or" starving!

On the same note; they also trapped beaver over here in Snohomish and King Counties (Indian did the trapping and some of the Pest Control Company guys that are WCO's gave them to them) went over to Kittitas County
JC   :hello:

That's what I thought was interesting. I know beavers can live for a long time but I thought they might put weight on faster than that. The ditch she was living in is pretty easy street for a beaver. The only thing I saw wrong with her when I was fleshing her out was an old bite wound on the should. It was completely healed but just scar tissue now but it looked like it could have been a decent size bite.
