Sako 85 ejection issue
« on: February 04, 2017, 02:57:23 PM »
Does anyone know if Sako/Beretta has fixed the ejection issue on the 85's, where the brass is ejected upward into the scope tube/turret? I'm about to drop cash on an 85 in 338wm but don't want to deal with this problem.

It's been an issue mostly on long action 85's since that model came out. I can't find anything online, since 2015, regarding the issue.

I know exactly what you're talking about.   I put a set of low rings on a model 85 in .30-06 and experienced that problem.   There was a ton of coverage on the topic on some other forums.   What fixed my issue was going with tall rings.   It was higher than I prefer to have a scope mounted, but that would also depend on the objective size of your scope.  From what I remember it was only prevalent in '06, 270 cartridge rifles.   Didn't remember seeing anything in the magnum category but the design is the same so I can't imagine it would be absent in those calibers.

Interesting. I read through a lot of the forums and guys were even having problems with short action rifles too but more so with long action. I definitely don't want to "fix" it by using high rings hmmm

I remember something about this issue. I think it had to do with the angle the bras was ejecting at. A lot of guys run low rings and then you take a scope with target turrets the cases will smack the dial depending on scope positioning. I know some guys would have problems unloading un fired rounds but after firing a round it would clear. IDK if that is a issue they would have fixed or not.
