Name this scat?
« on: February 05, 2017, 12:21:40 PM »
I was out today doing a little scouting and hiking and found this.  It's quite a bit smaller than coyote but is loaded with fur.  Just curious if it's Bobcat.  I am not familiar with them myself being from Ohio.

Could be from any number of small predators.

It looks like weasel or mink scat to me.
JC   :hello:

"Google" picture of mink scat ..... open link to Images of mink scat ....
3rd roll down, 6th picture from left looks real close to what you have and it says that it is weasel scat.

Would mink have a lot of fur in it?  It is certainly in an area where I would expect mink also.

Both mink and weasel kill and eat mice, rats, rabbits, birds and feed off of dead carcasses of other animals.
Looking at the leaf that the scat is on, it doesn't look like it is anything bigger than mink or weasel.

For everybody, if you run across something like this, take a picture of it but put something like a quarter, dollar bill, pocket knife or something to show how big it is.  Or measure it or guess what the measure measurements are.  Length, diameter, etc..
