Tiderunner gas tank

Hey I have a 2004 palmer tiderunner, noticed a gas leak the other day so ended up pulling the tank today. Found 2 holes in the bottom of the tank after scraping some scale. Does anyone know of anyone that makes aftermarket tanks for this boat?  It is an aluminum tank, I can cut out the bottom and weld a new piece in or build a new tank out of stainless, but might be easier to buy a plastic tank. Any opinions?

Go to a plastic tank, if you patch the current tank make sure it's not touching any other metals when it is in its mounting place because of electrolocis, even steel bolts that hold it down will cause the aluminum to fail. As far as a new stainless tank goes you will probably need to mortgage your home to pay for it. Good luck!

Only thing that touches the tank is nylon straps and fiberglass.

Just trying to help. I have been a fabricator for 20 years specializing in aluminum, if you want me to cut out the rotten area and replace let me know. But if you can fit a plastic tank in its place I would do that.

Thanks for the input, I have the capability of welding in a new piece so might go that route. Only aftermarket plastic tanks I can find are square, mine angles up on the sides to follow the hull.

Check in with a few of the boat places I see plastic tanks all the time that are made for under floor applications as well as bow gas tanks.

I can't remember the website but I have seen fuel tanks in all shapes and sizes on it, they had L shaped, U shaped, all sorts. Good luck

 A buddy of mine replaced his in his Tiderunner last year with a plastic one, he's happy with it.

Even if you have the ability to weld aluminum I would not chance it with a fuel tank. Primarily because it is almost impossible to prep old dirty aluminum well enough to get a reliable weld. I worked with a number of alum boat builders in SE AK and I don't know how many new or almost new tanks I saw them scrap as opposed to trying to fix. Secondly if there are holes in it already then more will be coming, the most you will be doing is bandaiding a bigger issue.

You should be able to find a poly tank that will fit and last forever. SS will be fairly expensive and you will gain a lot of weight.
