For big fish that are going to pull the release or fishing shallow I like to use a slow rod 9'-10'. For blackmouth that can be deep and not very big I use a med-fast so I can get a release if the fish can't. Also use a 4 leader between cable and release so I don't drag a shaker around. For price Why spend a lot? For salmon you run flasher's that take away the action your not holding it all day casting like your drift fishing a river so the extra weight does not matter and it takes more abuse. I have 15 D/R rods but My favorite is a glass 9.5' lamiglass that's 15 years old I won at a Puget sound angler's meeting.

Dang huntnphool, looks like an ad for Cabelas.....pumping up your cabelas stock or getting royalties or something?  :chuckle:

I ran my 1165 Steelhead Series Loomis out of the downrigger yesterday and it worked great. A little pricey, but I love that rod.

that rod does it all. i regret selling mine cause my buddie doesnt know how to fish and that rod is beat to shiat now.

i got an 1104 now and would use it in a downrigger no problem.

and i bet you never once felt under gunned with that rod when fighting 30lb fish. lol

He got next to the boat and just tried to hold bottom (about 12' deep), and i just slowly lifted the rod, and he came right up (to be released).

Actually I bought them at Sportco, its just I knew right where to get a link to look at them at Cabelas :chuckle:
