perfect duck boat

Im planning to purchase a boat next year. If you guys could have any boat what set up would you got with for size and motor horse power. I personally am looking for something that I could get out in the rivers and also on the bays and be safe if it starts to get a little choppy out. Max weight would be 3 guys and a couple of dozens dekes.

Look at rh, almost essentially same boat as a alumaweld super vee with a real persons budget. I looked at one in Spokane, 21' with a125 pump, gps fish finder, etc. For $27ish.

congrats on the new boat!!! I've been looking pretty hard at the lowe roughnecks with just a tiller to maximize the space for gear.

Tiller is the way to go imo i looked at the roughnecks to but the rh is way more open floor space and alot thicker hull and overall heaver duty

Smokercraft 1866 pro sportsman tiller all welded made in Oregon for Smokercraft. 80 yamaha jet for under $23k with  locking sideboxes and lots of room. They also have a new Sportsman 20 Pro V that looks amazing but it's white and stainless. It's more like an Alumaweld super vee. RH just doesn't have any features that I can see. Isn't it just an empty boat with some seat boxes?

I belive your talking about the 16 and 18 foot im talking about the super pro v 20 it has more storage then my alumaweld super vee had but they are very similar boats

Check out fish rite river master in the 18' and 20'.  I just picked up the 20' this year and its awesome!  Lots of deck space, handles big water really well, and you definitely feel secure in choppy water. 

Stay away from jon boat style.  They are great in calm marshy areas.  Hunting in the north west where the weather can get really nasty and a lot more likely to hunt big water, a mod-v style boat is the way to go.     good luck with finding the new boat

18' smokercraft freedom with a 60hp yamaha tiller/prop gets my vote. It comes in a drab paint scheme and a few different interior configurations. Good luck in your search!

No perfect duck boat!     1860 or 1872 model is good for a wide variety of applications without spending the big money for Bankes, Duckwaters or TDB boats.  I have 5 different duck boats based on various applications of use.    Over the last several years I have chose to upsize the boat and throw in layout style boats for hunting.  The birds decoys closer and you get better concealment.

I usually run the big boat out and anchor in the main channel and use the layout to hunt out of or pull up to the shoreline.  Especially good for late season blind shy birds.

If I had another bay in the shop, my dream duck boat to fill it would actually be a 22' pontoon with a 150hp on it. All camoed up and netting, walk up ramp for the dog, solid roof for weather and a bbq. Enough room for 5 guys to lay waste to some late season divers. I enjoy the company the most.

Buddy with a boat, always the best kind of boat for any application.

I can vouch for RH, they are built very well, have a great hull design and are a good value at that price point.

I had a Roughneck for years and loved it. After the first year, I began customizing it for the waters I hunted and fished and you should do the same.

The biggest thing I would've changed was the motor; I had a Merc 90 Jet. My thinking was I'd save tons of prop re-work and get into shallower waters with the jet but I hunted & fished a good amount in salt tides and found myself regularly leaning over the back of the boat to un-muck the impeller intake.

My next duck boat only setup will have a long tail / Gatortail type of setup. Search for some old threads on here to see my previous setup.
