Lense compatibility question
« on: March 19, 2017, 06:10:56 PM »
I am not much into the taking pictures thing.

My better half is wanting a new DSLR. Kinda needs one finally.

My question is this. Will our 15 year old Quantarry AF 70-300 lense work on the new cameras?

Thanks in advance

Sorry the best answer is going to be "yes, no, maybe or depends".  You're not giving us much to work with.

What type of mount is your old lens?  The T6 may work if your lens is EF mount.

To be honest use that lens as a paper weight and get a DSLR with a kit lens in that focal length range. Quantaray are low end junk made for certain camera store chains. They are the lowest end Sigma lenses that are slow focusing, noisy, and have poor quality glass in them. The newer lower end dslr will really show the poor performance of the lens to the point you might think the camera is the problem.

So in short, get a kit lens with whatever dslr you get.

If the mounts are the same (as in cannon to cannon) it will work to an extent. My old quantarray lens works on my dslr but won't auto focus. If yours is like mine from a film camera using it on a dx format (non full frame) it will also have a 1.5x magnification factor so 70-300 becomes 105-450. I used mine as an interim until I could afford a better lens.

Yes, Sigma makes some great lenses at the top end of their lines, but the Quantaray branded (for Wolf/Ritz camera stores) are not even close to the good Sigmas.
