Help for Inlaw with AZ Unit 27 Bull hunt tag
« on: March 31, 2017, 09:22:20 AM »
Hey all.
My Stepdad just drew a Rifle bull tag for Unit 27 and we want to make sure he gets the hunt of a lifetime.  He drew it a few years ago, and did not have a guide and did not know the unit well enough to drop anything.  They saw one bull 2nd day that was not a shooter and then nothing for rest of the week.  This second draw is a pure stroke of luck and likely his last chance to get drawn for this sort of hunt in AZ given the changes in regs down there and his age.  We want to take full advantage and make sure he tags out.

Hoping someone knows the unit, or maybe knows a good reputable outfitter for Arizona Unit 27?   If anyone has ideas, a recommended guide, etc please let me know.

I know the unit pretty well.  If I had that tag I would be down in the Blue Wilderness area or Bear Wallow going down over the rim.  Guides will be taking hunters in these areas on horseback and is some of the roughest country in the state but these two areas produce some hammer bulls every year.  Areas that we're hit with the Wallow Fire some years ago also have pockets that hold a lot of bulls during the late season.  Miss that area a lot.  Hit me up with a PM; maybe we can talk on the phone.  Ed

I am pretty sure he hunts that unit as he grew up close to there. My dad went on a deer hunt with him based on a lot of other peoples recommendations and said he had a great time.  He is very good at finding huge bulls.
