Don't get discouraged
« on: April 18, 2017, 03:59:01 PM »
Been reading up on turkey hunting in our state and apparently there's just under 12,000 turkey hunters in a given year, around 3,400 of them successfully harvest a turkey. That's just over 1/3 of hunters that tried in our state. Now I live on the west side, and less than 50 turkeys in total get harvested on the west side per year. I only get 1 day off a week so I can only hunt here. I failed to get one today but will try again next week, after seeing the numbers I am not too optimistic about getting one this year but also wont be discouraged. Good luck everyone!

Have you seen them in the West side?  That's a start.

Not this year. Where I live right now you wouldn't see them, and I work 6 days, 60 hours a week...Last year I saw some in Whatcom County.

I feel your pain, I went out last weekend with no luck hopefully going again this Thursday to try and harvest my first turkey. Either way just being out there is more than I could have ever asked. I have always wanted to get into hunting and I'm living the dream. Stay positive and good luck to you!!

2015 numbers on the WDFW website. 12,044 hunters killed 4561 birds.  That is just shy of 38%  That number is huge, you ever look at the success number for elk in this state?  I will give you that there are not many birds on the coast, but the kill rate is almost 50% in the NE.

Next weekend you get off work  at 4, drive 6 hours sleep in the truck shoot a bird, take a nap, and drive home.

I have never shot any of my birds on opening weekend. its all about playing the long game. They have to be perfect all the time you just have to be perfect once. Hunt hard and shoot straight

Which state?  If you were in WA I bet you had the woods to yourself since you were a month early.  :) :)
