Discovery bay shrimp.

Looking to do some halibut fishing next weekend out of Sequim and would love to drop some shrimp pots in Discovery Bay and I really don't know where to drop them 

If anybody can give me some tips of areas to drop the pots I would greatly appreciate it 

I know the general knowledge of dropping pots for shrimp but looking for information on where to drop pots I Discovery bay.

As of right now I'm just going to wing it and hopefully get an idea from the people that are already out there dropping pots, just follow them.

Pick spots in the proper depth range, 250-350' on a sloping bottom. Avoid the large flat bowl between Protection Island and the Disco Bay mouth. There can be alot of floating kelp that  can build up on your line and sink your bouys, I've had this happen. Had to wait for slack tide for my bouy to  pop back up. Shrimp are all over the Disco Bay zone. Lots of guys fish the Eastern shore in and outside of Disco Bay. One problem while trying to do both is that you are running back and forth alot trying to fish and pull pots. While you'll likely still get your shrimp this hurts your halibut chances. Also I catch alot more coonies in Disco Bay than Puget Sound. There's still a ton of spots though.  I'll be out there for one of the later days, gonna do Neah for halibut for the first opener. Almost forgot, make sure you swing by Snug Harbor Cafe off the Highway for chowder and fish n chips. You won't regret it!

I drive by that place every week when I go to Port Angeles to make my deliveries for work, even drove by it today. And I have yet to stop in and try the place, but I'm going to.

The Disco Bay zone should be 7:00am to 3:00 pm for shrimp unless they changed it this year. I haven't checked.

Anyways, anybody ever try fishing the drop offs there for halibut?

I was listening to Tom Nelson's halibut seminar and he talked fishing around areas where people shrimp and using shrimp sent with your bait to catch halibut.

I've never fished McCurdy Point just east of Disco Bay but fish can be had there. I have fished Dallas Bank on the North side of Protection Island and never done any good. But people do catch'em there, just gotta hit it at the right time I guess. Check out the halibut section on SalmonUniversity.com, they outline that area a bit.

Oh I'm doing my research, that's for sure. Checking out all sorts of maps then I can find for the area at Dallas Bank. The last time I fished out there with Captain silver we caught a 45 pound halibut in this trough on the west side of the island and about a hundred twenty feet of water, not far from the shrimp area.

Sssssh...Pete ,keep that spot for your hali....wish I could be there ,maybe we would make it out of the harbor through the bay this time without any problems

Any time I shrimp a new area I just drop my pot by the sea of other yellow floats in the 200-250' depth.  Usually works.

I used to shrimp Discovery and hali fish, but have never crushed the shrimp there.  It is a pretty small area, there aren't too many secret spots I would guess.  It has lower shrimp densities, I think some of the lowest that WDFW samples, but they are shrimp, so you'll do fine.
