Backcountry fishing pole

+1 for tenkara rods in the backcountry. Have a 12 ft iwana from tenkaraUSA and a dragontail 12ft rod. TenkaraUSA feels much nicer but both get the job done.

another Tenkara rod fan here. I picked mine up from Theclymb.com its the wetfly 12' tenakra rod kit and love it for backpacking and hiking.

I owned a browning safari for several years and loved it.  Lost it in a stupid canoe tip on the Yakima... 

Owned a cheap Piscifun 4-piece rod for one hiking trip and broke it on a hook set.  Not recommended, obviously. 

Currently trying to decide between the safari again, a cabelas 4-piece, or to save a few more dollars and go for the St Croix.

I use a medium action 2 piece 6 foot 6 Ugly Stick that I strap to the side pouch on my backpack.  Durable as all get out, not too spendy.  Cheap, light stuff always breaks at the worst and unexpected times-big fish on or during a super fishing day or trip.

i pulled the trigger on a tenakra sawtooth a little while back, very excited to give it a shot. will save me a ton of weight and bulk over my 4wt 4pc reddington

I'm just getting into the Tenkara stuff, its fun for sure.  I've got the sawtooth as well.

I haven't packed it on a backcountry trip, but I have used it extensively fishing up and down the river and in stocked lakes, and it makes an excellent little trout rod.

Ugly sticks don't break Sir... that's the beauty, so good call. If you can understand the rod's flex/reaction than you are in a very good spot.

I beg to differ, my wife was an expert at slamming my Ugly Sticks in the truck door and tail gate.

I'm still using my Wright-McGill 4 piece pack rod that came in an aluminum case, it's at lease 50 years old. I did replace my Mitchell 300 with a newer graphite Okuma.

FWIW, I found a deal on a St Croix triumph travel 4-pc rod and put a little pfleuger president reel on it.  The fit and finish is outstanding and it's a pleasure to use.  Light, packs small (although I do use an old cylinder case from my browning safari rod if I think I'll need to toss my bag around), and it's sensitive as all get out. 

I got the light/fast version, but I have to say it's not the fastest tip in the world.  More than my other rods, it necessitates good form and keeping the tip up when you're trying to land the fish to keep the hook set. 

Hopefully I won't break it.

I love my Daiwa Presso. It's a 4piece 7 foot UL that can whip a 1/16 oz rooster tail about 40yds into the wind. Had a 5 foot 6 pole that doesn't cast for S#$@

True, but having a pole that lets you feel the bite and land the fish SURE is nice.

This is as good of a price as I've seen! I have the 12' version, it's awesome!!!
