Archery Bear attack

He panicked horribly and got lucky.  My first choice in that situation would be to use the weapon in my hand, the bow and arrow, and drive that arrow as deep as I could into the front portion of the bear and hope enough of a distraction occurs to grab another arrow or a pistol (if I had one).

I'm not a dangerous game bio or even close, but would say the charge was territorial or defensive and not predatorial.

I stuck an arrow in a bear while elk hunting years ago.  Had no choice, we came face to face on a trail about 25ft apart.  It stood up, sniffed, licked, looked behind and I was telling him go away bear.  It was trapped between elk and hunters. When it stopped licking and chattering and looked at me eye to eye with a steely look I knew time was up.  This took around 15-30 seconds (Not sure exactly time slows way down).  I wasn't deep in the woods and wasn't alone and wasn't armed with anything besides a bow.  Arrow blew through neck and bear ran through the herd of elk away from me.  My arrow landed about 5-10ft from my hunt partner who was behind bear in the thick brush watching elk hoping for the Bull to present.  Crazy, ya never know which is why I don't flame people when things go bad unless its total stupidity.

I don't think it's predatory anymore, just a nice big dominant bear that got surprised.  He's lucky

Yes I had one stalk me right to my blind. his nose was in the dirt and moving fast. I only had a few  seconds and my bow was in my hand. I had a 44 on my side but he would have been in my blind before I got it drawn. I shot and hit high.

I'd agree that it looks like a predatory bear-- except that the bear stopped the attack and the man survived.  Predatory black bear attacks normally result in the bear eating the victim.  I am inclined to think it was predatory but something happened at the point of contact to change the bear's mind.  That hunter is incredibly lucky.

Watch the full video, the bear knew he was there and was exhibiting predatory behavior.  My handgun would have been at high ready bow laying on the ground before the charge began.
