Looking for more power! F150?
« on: June 05, 2017, 12:35:53 AM »
Not sure if there is any Ford fans out there but I'm kind of curious to see if anyone had any experience with adding more power to f150's.
I currently have a 2002 Ford F150 v6 4.2l short bed reguler cab 2 wheel drive.

Setups pretty muuch stock atm. Looking to add a few more ponies to it and increase general reliability for the dirt roads when hunting. This truck is a 5 speed manual. First thing I plan on doing is doing the GOTTS mod for the intake being as I've heard it us bed results than any air intake ad only runs about 20$.
Anyone ever try performance chips?
Also would it be smart to add a rear locker to the back tires?

How about just selling it at getting an F-150 Ecoboost?

Why would I sell an f150 to buy an f150. If I was gonna just sell I'd buy a chevy.

I read somewhere on the internet that if you burn diesel in it you will get more torque and better mileage.  ;)

@jackalope

It's @jackelope
I spelled it wrong a long time ago and never fixed it. My bad.
I don't know anything about performance stuff. Pretty much only do stock stuff.

Performance upgrades on 4.2 v-6 is a lot like polishing a turd. Way more bang for the buck to be had other places.

I've owned numerous 4x4's over my life time and for good reasons.  That said, my 02 Ford 4x4 SuperCrew is to date the Worse 4x4 I've ever owned.

Ford's better "idea" was to make them so you have to take them back to a dealer for, what used to be simple maintenance you could do in your back yard.

But that is true of all of them now.

My best 4x4's were  a 73 and 75(thats 1973)Chev 3/4 ton 4x4.   My rig at present that I use in the hills, 92 Jeep.

I don't think you'll get much "power" increase out of a 4.2 unless you have a "mechanic" to rebuild it and find a place that sell 110 octane gas.

Put a v 8 in it.  Or buy a newer truck.
